Carl James Flester

January 23, 1953 — February 25, 2018

Carl James Flester, the son of Charles Henry and Geraldine Eleanor (Ginnenan) Flester, was born January 23, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland and died February 25, 2018, at his home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 65 years, 1 month, and 2 days.
CJ lived in and grew up in the Baltimore area where he attended school. On October 13, 1984, he married Dora Yvonne Carmichael in Baltimore. Later they were baptized together at the Baptist Church in Essex, Maryland. They lived in Baltimore for a number of years. During this time CJ was employed as an auto mechanic and also did auto body repair. They moved to Granite Falls, North Carolina for a short time, returned to Baltimore, then in 2000 move to Harlan, Iowa to be close to Dora’s family and her twin sister Nora. The next year CJ and Dora purchased their home in Audubon, Iowa. CJ worked as a dishwasher at the Wings Truck Stop. Dora died on September 27, 2007.
Following Dora’s death CJ met Peggy Tibbetts, they became great friends and in 2009 became a family. CJ worked at Wings for several years and in 2008became the cook at the local Dairy Queen in Audubon until it closed in 2010. He then worked at Hard Parts in Hamlin, Iowa until he retired due to his failing health.
CJ’s true passion was working on vehicles. He enjoyed tinkering with anything that had a motor. He also enjoyed spend time with Peggy watching movies.
Preceding him in death was his wife Dora Yvonne Flester; his parents; and an infant sister.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Tibbetts of Audubon, Iowa; his children Carl, Jr and family and Tabitha Marie and family all of Louisville, Kentucky; his grandchildren Cordeal Brown and Caleb Rivera both of Audubon, Iowa; Peggy’s children Patricia and husband Joseph Darland of La Plata, Missouri, Robert Brown of Kirksville, Missouri, and Tiffany Brown of Audubon, Iowa; Peggy’s grandchildren Brandon, Lumen and Liam Darland of La Plata, Missouri, William and Annabelle Brown of Kirksville, Missouri; his step grandchildren Jeffrey Moore, Jr., Marie Weatherstein, and Amy Weatherstein all of Granite Falls, North Carolina, Ashley Hetterich of Baltimore, Maryland, Christopher Hetterich of Lake City, Iowa, Eric, Michael, Kelly, Brittney Campbell, Brain Moore, and Brittney Moore all of Baltimore, Maryland; his several great step grandchildren, his brothers Walter and wife Beverly Flester of Reisterstown, Maryland, and John and wife Carol Flester of Jessup, Maryland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
