Carol Schuler

Carol Ann Schuler, 82, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Caring Acres Nursing and Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

Carol was born in Anita, Iowa, July 11, 1935, to Lesile and Mary (Kearns) Dorsey. She attended the consolidated Wiota Elementary School, country school around Anita and graduated from Anita High School in 1954.

She was united in marriage to Darrel Schuler on September 9, 2000, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

After graduation Carol worked for Bell Telephone Company in Atlantic for a few years then moved on to being a dental assistant in Des Moines and finally working at Mahle in Atlantic for several years before retiring.

Carol was a life-long Lutheran belonging to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.

Entertaining and decorating were only some of Carol’s favorite activities and she was very good at it. She enjoyed being a fashionista, dressing up, and having classmates over for dinner and visiting. Being a good cook worked well for her sweet tooth. She kept busy going to her grandchildren’s activities, graduations and weddings. She was a lover of all pets, especially cats. She was always ready to help others and would do anything for anyone even if they were a stranger.

Preceding Carol in death were her parents, Lesile and Mary Dorsey; her brothers-in-law, Dale Schaaf and Roger Rosenberg; nephew, Bruce Ehrman; and niece, Janet Aggen.

Those surviving Carol are her husband, Darrel Schuler of Anita, Iowa; her children, David (Jill) Jensen of Omaha, NE, Richard (Sandra) Jensen of Norwalk, IA, Jon (Joan) Jensen of Johnston, IA, Larry (Sonya) Schuler of Marne, IA, Sandra (Lonn) Schlueter of Anita, IA, Ronnie (Kandi) Schuler of Atlantic, IA and Steven (Jody) Schuler of Anita, IA; grandchildren, Shane (significant other Rachel) Jensen, Emily Jensen, Andrew Jensen, Kaylyn Jensen, Mikayla Jensen, Chris (Chrissy) Schuler, Jessica Schuler, Melissa Schuler, Ashley Schuler, Heather (Mike) Stutzman, Dusty (Lindsey) Van Horn, Shannon (Kaleb) Kern, Brooke (Tyler) Hilgenberg, Morgan Schuler, Courtney (fiancé, Trevor Knutsen) Schuler, Branden Ballinger, Kadie Schuler and Carli Schuler; great-grandchild, Braelyn Jensen; siblings, Norma L. Schaaf of Anita, IA, Delores (Fred) Ehrman of Anita, IA, Melvyn (Karen) Dorsey of Bedford, TX, Marlene Rosenberg of Arlington Heights, IL, and Lesile R. “Dick” (Janet) Dorsey of Anita, IA; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.

Luncheon will be served at the Anita American Legion Hall after the committal service.

Memorials may be directed to an animal rescue of your choice in Carol’s name.
