Carolines family moved to the United States when she was a young child. Caroline was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, Iowa. They farmed there until they moved into Audubon due to Elmers failing health in December of 1965. Elmer died December 2, 1966. Caroline was employed at the Audubon Elementary School in the lunch room until she retired at the age of 70.
During retirement Caroline enjoyed baby-sitting for her grandchildren. She did a lot of handwork: crocheting and tying quilts, and playing Chinese checkers with her group of friends. She loved to cook, especially for visitors. She would bake bread, fry chicken and Frickadiller. She enjoyed canning and gardening.
