Carolyn Schellenberg

Carolyn May Hall Schellenberg, 76, of Anta, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

Carolyn May Otteman was born on September 23, 1932, near Scribner, Nebraska, one of six children born to Henry Herman and Margaret Viola (Givins) Otteman.

She attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, where she earned her teaching certificate. Carolyn taught country school until her marriage to William Hall on February 19, 1954. The couple moved to Beatrice, Nebraska, where they raised their four children. Later Carolyn worked at the Beatrice State Development Center for a number of years. Her husband, William Hall died in February of 2000. Carolyn then married Ray Schellenberg on June 8, 2002, and moved to Anita, Iowa.

Carolyn very much enjoyed her family and playing games with them. Every birthday was a special occasion for her to make each of them their own special cake. She enjoyed making all kinds of desserts. Carolyn had a great appreciation of the outdoors. She was entertained for many hours with her bell and stamp collections.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Schellenberg of Anita, IA; her children, Mark Hall of Lincoln, NE, Patti Schobert of Holcomb, KS, Jacki Rempel of Fairbury, NE, and Mathew Hall of Landenberg, PA; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lauralee Meyer of Omaha, NE and Joyce Schobert of Hugoton, KS; three brothers, Jimmy Otteman of Wasau, NE, David Otteman of Scribner, NE, and Floyd Everitt of Fremont, NE.

She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bonnie Weise of Colorado.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita, Iowa.

Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
