Carrie E. Schmidt

Carrie E. Schmidt, the daughter of Mike H. and Sidsel Kristensen, Albertsen was born October 11, 1924, at her parents’ home in Cameron Township, Audubon County east of Gray, Iowa and died June 21, 2012, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 10 days. Carrie was baptized at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon and later was confirmed there. While attending confirmation she met her future husband, LaVern. She attended Gray Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1942. During High School she enjoyed playing basketball and also won a free throw contest. After graduation she helped on the family farm where she milked cows, shocked oats and made meals for everyone. On January 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to LaVern P. Schmidt at the Grand View Lutheran Church in Des Moines, IA. Two children Linda and Kurt were born to this union. They rented a farm east of Audubon for a short time then moved to Fiscus, Iowa and farmed there for several years. Later they again moved east of Audubon where they rented the Clark Arnold farm. In 1958 they purchased a farm east of Audubon in Melville Township. They grew hay and corn and fed cattle. During this time Carrie helped LaVern operate the farm and also took care of the home. She loved to cook and always had a delicious meal for the men farming. They continued to farm until they retired and moved into Audubon in 1984. Carrie was a life long member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon and was active in the Woman’s Circle. She enjoyed having coffee with her friends, spending time in her home, but most of all she enjoyed being with her daughter Linda and her grandson Jason and his family. She always enjoyed spending the summers with Jason on the farm and watching her grandchildren grow up. She looked forward to getting together with relatives and also gathering with her Gray classmates. Carrie was preceded in death by her son Kurt Schmidt; her parents; her brothers Russell Albertsen and Ernest Albertsen; her sisters-in-law Betty Schmidt and Irma Schmidt and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Eli and Lena Schmidt. Survivors include her husband of 65 years LaVern P. Schmidt of Audubon, Iowa; her daughter Linda and husband Ron Wells of Palm Desert, California; her grandson Jason and wife Kristin Dominick of Evansville, Indiana; her great grandchildren Isaac Dominick and Lauren Dominick both of Evansville; her brother-in-law Everett Schmidt of Bella Vista, Arkansas; her sister-in-law Ardys Albertsen of Carroll, Iowa; many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
