Carrie Marie Jensen

Carrie Marie (Poulsen) Jensen, the daughter of Henry and Trina (Bork) Poulsen, was born May 12, 1930, at her parents’ home north of Fiscus, Iowa and died December 9, 2019, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 27 days.

Carrie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She attended the Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1948. She completed Normal Training then taught rural school in Melville Township.

On October 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harvey L. Jensen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons: Greg and Mark. Carrie and Harvey moved to Harvey’s family farm near Exira, Iowa. They grew row crops and raised livestock their entire married life. Carrie had a small garden where she raised vegetables and canned the produce. But most important to her was that she always was a care giver. Her mother Trina never had a driver’s license, so Carrie spent many hours with her running errands and taking her to her many appointments.

Over the years Harvey developed health problems and Carrie was always there to help him. Harvey died from complications from Parkinson’s in 2009. Carrie continued to live on the farm, living there for more than 65 years before moving to the Exira Care Center in the fall of 2013.

Carrie was an active member of the Exira Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served on many committees. Carrie was instrumental in developing the Parkinson’s Support Group. Carrie loved music and enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, and singing. But above all she enjoyed caring for her family, especially the grandchildren.

Carrie was preceded in death by her husband Harvey L. Jensen; her parents; her brother, Harvey Poulsen; her brother-in-law, Bob Roberts; and her sisters-in-law, Darlene and husband Jack Hilsabeck and Doris Jorgensen.

Survivors include her sons, Greg and wife Chris Jensen of Hamlin, Iowa and Mark and wife Tracy Jensen of Moorhead, Minnesota; her granddaughters: Katie Jensen and her fiancé Robert Trytek of West Des Moines, Iowa; Molly and husband Clifford Schaefer stationed in Accra, Ghana; Laura Jensen and Jordan Jensen both of Moorhead, Minnesota; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Poulsen of Audubon, Iowa; Norma Roberts of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Dale and wife Avis Jensen of Mason City, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will greet friends Friday afternoon, December 13, 2019, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Friday, December 13, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery. The casket bearers will be Greg Jensen, Mark Jensen, Brian Jensen, Robert Jensen, Sam Heese, and Clark Borkowski.
