Charles Joseph "Joe" Baumann, was born April 18, 1947, in Beatrice, Nebraska, the son of John James and Beulah May (Crosier) Baumann, and passed away at his home in Cumberland, Iowa, on Thursday, January 1, 2009.
Joe lived in Beatrice, Nebraska, most of his life and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School. Joe was employed by Nebraska Public Power for 17 years.
He came to Iowa in 1994 and spent several years plowing in, and splicing telephone cable in Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. During this time he met and married Sally Ranney on August 19, 1994, at Kingman, Kansas. They traveled around during his employment with the cable company and finally settled in Cumberland, Iowa.
Following that he worked at Camblin's, and most recently as a truck driver for Henningsen Construction Company, both in Atlantic, Iowa. Prior to his retirement from the Army National Guard he spent 21 years, 8 months and 21 days in the service.
Joe loved to bow hunt, which he enjoyed for over 30 years, until he became ill three years ago. He also cherished the time he spent with his family at get togethers and on camping trips. He loved spending his free time in the great outdoors watching wildlife, especially those times he spent outdoors with his grandchildren. Joe also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing solitaire.
Survivors include his wife Sally Baumann, of Cumberland, Iowa; son, Charlie (Tammy) of Beatrice, Nebraska.; daughter, Michelle Berens of Omaha, Nebraska; step daughters, Kim Stark and fiancé Loryn Lund of Cumberland, Iowa, and Kristal Hardisty all of Cumberland, Iowa; step sons, Tony (Angie) Hardisty of Corning, Iowa, Troy (Wendy) Hardisty, Jeremy (Tina) Hardisty, Darrin (Tiffany) Hardisty all of Cumberland, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Chance & Cheyanne Baumann, Dalton, Zane & Shae Berens, Paige, Justin, Ashley, Austin, Chelsea, Faye and Tyler Hardisty, Logan Baumann, Tyler, Haley and Taymen Brawdy; brothers, John (Judy) Baumann, Greg (Linda) Baumann, Fred (Lori) Baumann, Ed Baumann, Pat Baumann; brothers-in-law, Jim (Betty) Ranney, Dale (Mary) Ranney, David (Jody) Ranney; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa. A luncheon will be held following the service in the community room at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. No visitation will be held.
Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
