Charles Sorensen

Charles “Charlie” Sorensen, 84, of Audubon, IA, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Friendship Home in Audubon.

Charlie was born November 24, 1935, in Audubon, IA, to Raymond and Helen (Bladt) Sorensen. He attended Audubon schools and graduated from Audubon High School in 1954.

He joined the US Army in 1954 serving two years and was discharged in 1956.

On February 22, 1957, he married Joan Marie Madsen in Guthrie Center, IA.

Charlie had farmed for several years before being employed in the maintenance department of the Iowa DOT for 34 years.

He was a lifelong resident of Audubon. He was a member of the Hamlin Lutheran Church and the Audubon VFW Post #4119.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elvin Sorensen; parents-in-law, Arnold and Therma Madsen; sister-in-law, Alice Schaffer; brother-in-law, Darrell Taylor;and special friend, Jeff Jensen.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Joan Sorensen of Audubon; his children, Larry (Vicky) Sorensen of Exira, IA, Carrie (Terry) Andersen of Earlham, IA, and Nadine (Bob) Buffaloe of Blair, NE; grandchildren, Chris Sorensen and his special friend, Alyse Wisdom, Nick (Anna) Sorensen, Heather (Joe) Davidson, Justin (Steph) Andersen, Abby (Alex) Hassett, Joni (Josh) Kappes, Amy (Paul) Kautzky, Ryan (Lindsey) Venteicher, Tina (James) Humlicek, Chad (Megan) Jensen, and Angie Jensen and special friend Preston Lawson; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice (Fred) Leutzinger of Des Moines, IA; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Taylor of Lincoln, NE and Janet Sorensen of Audubon, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Peggy (Vernie) Venteicher, Linda Jensen, Marsha Jensen, Kim (Jedidiah) Glover and Deb Steinbach.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, IA. Visitation with family will be held during a luncheon at the church immediately following the service.

Memorials may be left to family’s wishes to be designated at a later date.
