Charlotte Perkins

Charlotte Perkins, 68, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family, Monday, August 21, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Charlotte Louise was born February 6, 1949, in Corydon, Iowa, to Ardys LeRoy and Margaret Louise (Hook) Smalley. She grew up on a farm outside of Corydon and graduated from Wayne Community High School in 1967.

On June 4, 1967, Charlotte married Lyle C. Perkins at the Methodist Church in Corydon. They lived in various cities in Iowa moving to Atlantic in 1980. She spanned a 24 year career working as an engineering clerk at Mahle Engine Components, retiring in 2011.

Charlotte was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. She loved to travel and camp, crochet and sew. She especially enjoyed having breakfast with friends on Sunday mornings. Her greatest love was being with her family and grandchildren and playing Phase 10 with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardys and Margaret Smalley; her step-dad, Bob Davis; her father/mother-in-law, Marvin and Shirley Perkins; a brother, Chuck Smalley; and 2 brothers-in-law, Dale Thomas and Rex Perkins.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Lyle C. Perkins of Atlantic, IA; 4 daughters, Gina (Mike) Johnson of Brayton, IA, LeAnn (Kyle) Sorensen of Brayton, IA, Lynsi (Jason) Lamp of Atlantic, IA, and Nicole (Jeff) Corum of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Anna (Alex) Smith of Atlantic, IA, Abby Johnson of Brayton, IA, Cooper Lamp of Atlantic, IA, Quincy and Kole Sorensen of Brayton, IA, and Payton and Charlee Corum of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Shirley Thomas of Waukee, IA, Gayla (Mike) Walderbach of Bella Vista, AR, Susan (Jeff) Taylor of Lawton, OK; brother, Alan (Peggy) Smalley of Audubon, IA; and several brothers/sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA, with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.

Memorials may be left to the family’s wishes to be designated at a later date.
