Cheever Tuffin

Cheever Tuffin, 88, of Casey, Iowa, passed away January 10, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Hope Harbor, in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Cheever Lowell Tuffin was born May 9, 1921, in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Wendell Cheever and Mary Myrtle (Johnson) Tuffin. He was a life time resident of Guthrie County, Iowa, attending rural schools and graduating from Panora High School in 1938.

He was a farmer by trade, but also worked as a meat cutter at the Adair and Atlantic Lockers and most recently as a meter reader for the REC. He belonged to the Farm Bureau and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Casey, Iowa.

As a lifelong bachelor, Cheever's extended family, church family and friends were very important to him. He had a lifetime passion for reading, and enjoyed traveling. Since his retirement, drinking coffee and swapping stories with friends at the K C Café was a daily pleasure.
He will be remembered as a man who kept his word and helped his town and people as much as he could.

He is survived by 15 nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

Cheever was preceded in death by his father, Wendell in 1939, and his mother, Mary in 1986; his brother J. Edward Tuffin in 1988 and Edward's wife Dorthea in 1997; his sister Elizabeth Helman in 2001 and her husband Glen; his sister Irma Paulsen in 2002 and her husband Toby; and his brothers Wilford and Kenneth Tuffin in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010, at the Casey, Iowa, United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010, from 2:00-7:00 p.m. with the family present to meet friends from 5:00-700 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa.

Cheever has requested cremation take place following the funeral service. Burial of cremated remains will be in the Union Cemetery, Guthrie County, Iowa, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Casey Public Library.
