Cheryl Annette (Lay) Watson, 69, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, with her husband by her side. She was born February 12, 1949, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Douglas C and Marguerite Lay. She grew up South of Anita and attended country school before attending Anita Elementary. She graduated from Anita High School in 1967. Cheryl worked at Walnut Grove in Atlantic. She married Richard Watson on January 28, 1968. In January this year they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They have two girls, Amy and Jill. Cheryl loved to spend time with her husband, family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and attending the girl’s activities. Cheryl was a loving wife, mother and friend.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas C and Marguerite (Hayes) Lay and her brothers-in-law, Roger (Jane) Watson and Robert Watson.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Richard Watson of Anita, IA; her daughters, Amy (Charles) Bryant of Mesquite, TX; Jill (Russell) Stone of Thornton, CO; grandchildren, Taylor Bryant of Addison, TX, Tori Bryant of Mesquite, TX and Anthony Richard Gray of Thornton, CO; great-granddaughter, Kinsleigh Bryant of Mesquite, TX; brother-in-law, Rodney (Barb) Watson of Anita, IA; brother, Lyle (Vicki) Brown of Atlantic, IA; sister, Carol (Roger) Gard of Danville, IA; sister-in-law, Donna Watson of Indianola, IA; several nieces and nephews; her “Sister Friends” Connie Russell and Jane Hansen, both of Anita, IA; and many family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be designated to the Cheryl Watson Tribute Fund for Oligodendroglioma Research at the Mayo Clinic.

Visitation with family will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa.
