Cindy Lou Richter, 59, of Adair, passed away on June 7, 2015, in the care of St. Jude Hospice at Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, Iowa, after a courageous 2 year battle with colon cancer.

Born in Perry, Iowa, on October 29, 1955, to Patsy Hester Haley and Thomas Haley, Cindy was adopted by John H. Young in 1957. She lived in Yale, Des Moines, Shenandoah, Casey and Adair. She attended Adair-Casey Community School but spent her senior year of high school and graduated from Cavalier, North Dakota, before returning to Iowa. She worked in Des Moines before being married to Mark Richter in Casey, IA on August 17, 1974. Cindy was first a mom, and also worked in banking, insurance, real estate, and most recently at West Central. She loved baking, decorating, making arts and crafts, and community and church activities.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; son, Tony and wife Sheryl, and Jake and Josh Reed, Tate, Gracie and Maya of Adair, IA; son, Joe and wife Amy, and Hattie of Waukee, IA; son, Christopher and wife Amanda, and Jaxon and Eden of Huxley, IA; sister, Teresa Lawser (Jim) of Fort Collins, CO; and many other relatives.

Pre-deceasing Cindy are her mother, Patsy Young and her grandparents, Dorothy and Robert Young and Mary and Elston Hester.

Visitation will be from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Hockenberry Funeral home in Adair, Iowa.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Casey, Iowa.

Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to Hospice of St. Jude, or Guthrie County Hospital.

Cindy was active on Facebook and during her illness became known for her witty posts. Her battle with cancer served as inspiration for many and the outpouring of love and support she received touched her heart. Cindy loved family, friends, and life.
