Cleo L. Cook, 78, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the Griswold Care Center, Griswold, Iowa.

Cleo Laverne Cook was born July 1, 1930, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Elmer C. and Elsie M. (Ayers) Cook. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

He attended Atlantic Community Schools. Following school, Cleo's pride in his country showed as he joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict.

Cleo was married to Wilma Pond and together they had 5 sons, David, Dan, Doug, Dean and Dana. He then married Denise Schaaf and together they had 2 daughters, Julie and Jacqueline. Cleo was then married to Ruth Dyer and they had a son, Shawn David.

While living in Atlantic, after his military service, he worked for Walnut Grove and Andrews Roofing. Cleo moved to Mt. Morris, Illinois, and worked for Del Monte Foods for 11 years. He returned to Atlantic in 1993 and worked for Henningsen Construction until his retirement.

Cleo loved his children and grandchildren. Having morning coffee with his friends was indeed a pleasure for him.

Cleo is survived by his sons, Dan Cook and his wife, Dorothy of Atlantic, Iowa, Doug Cook and his friend, Candie of Atlantic, Iowa, Dean Cook and his wife, Gloria of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dana Cook of Atlantic, Iowa; his daughters, Julie Miller and her husband, Corey of Auburn, Nebraska, and Jacqueline Phippen and her husband, Kris of Exira, Iowa; his stepsons, Tim and Brian Bausman of Oregon, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Velma Wheeler of Villisca, Iowa, and Marilyn Weber and her husband, Don of Leesburg, Florida; his brother, Don Cook and his wife, Marilyn of Atlantic, Iowa; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Cook of Newton, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Rosalee Cook of Atlantic, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Elsie Cook; his wife, Ruth Cook; his sons, David Cook and Shawn Cook; his grandsons, Jeffrey and Tyler Cook; his sisters, Betty Glissman and her husband, Leonard, Norman Vollmuth and her husband, Ferd, and Talena Wheatley and her husband, John; his brothers, Roy Cook in infancy, Ernest Cook and his wife, Dorothy, Darrell Cook and Robert Cook; his brother-in-law, Bob Wheeler; and his step-daughter, Teresa Bausman.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 27, 2008, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. Following services at the cemetery the family invites you to join them for a lunch and memories in the Hockenberry Family Care Community Room.

A family visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Hockenberry Family Care.
