Dagny E. Knudsen, 91, of Atlantic, IA, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab in Atlantic.
Dagny Emma Sorensen was born on June 13, 1917, in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Viggo J. and Emma (Christiansen) Sorensen. She was raised one-quarter mile east of Hamlin. Dagny was baptized at the Audubon Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Hamlin Lutheran Church. She was currently a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa.
She attended elementary school in Hamlin, and high school in Audubon, then worked at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny during WWII.
On April 24, 1950, she married Roy Hart Knudsen in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She raised and sold Norwegian Elkhounds and Pekinese dogs. Many of her pleasures included sewing, canning, baking and cooking. She took pride in her home with decorating and remodeling projects. Dagny was a dedicated mother and cherished time playing with her grandchildren.
She and Roy lived north of Atlantic until moving into town in 1999. Roy passed away on September 16, 2000.
Dagny is survived by her sons, Paul Knudsen and his wife, Leanne of Glenwood, Iowa, James Knudsen and his wife, Cindy of Alberton, Montana, and Mark Knudsen and his wife, Julie of Cantonment, Florida; her grandchildren, Phillip and Michael, Joseph and Jason, and Ben and his wife, Nichole, and Emily; her nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Viggo J. and Emma Sorensen; her husband, Roy H. Knudsen; her brother, Alfred Knudsen and his wife, Leona; and her sisters, Margrethe Larsen and her husband, Alfred, Valborg Sorensen, Chrysantha Bruun and her husband, John, Ethel Lang and her husband, Earl, and Evelyn Nelson and her husband, Ray.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2008, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with the Reverend Dennis Meyer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, west of Brayton, Iowa.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
