Daisy Marie Schmidt

Daisy Marie Schmidt, the daughter of George Peter and Gladys Edith (Snyder) Parris, was born December 31, 1923, in Hutchinson, Kansas and died February 1, 2014, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 90 years and 1 month. Daisy was baptized and confirmed while in Hutchinson. She spent her early years in Hutchinson going to school and helping her parents at their restaurant. When she was a junior in high school the family moved to Audubon, Iowa. Her family owned and operated a restaurant called 'The Victory Cafe'. Daisy attended Audubon High School graduating as the Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. On April 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Evans Niels Peter Schmidt at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon. Three children: Linda, Michael, and Joel were born to this union. Evans traveled from town to town selling insurance, so they spent several years living in their travel trailer. In 1952 they started farming. They operated a farm southwest of Audubon where they grew crops and raised cattle until 1975 when they retired from farming and moved to Prescott, Arizona. While living in Prescott, they enjoyed traveling, square dancing, and playing tennis. In 1998 they returned to Audubon. Evans died March 24, 2002. Daisy enjoyed her home then moved to the Friendship Home in September of 2012. Daisy was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon and a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Prescott. Preceding her in death were her husband Evans; her parents; her sister Georgia and husband Marvin Adams; her sister Judy Larsen; her brothers-in-law: Russell Schmidt, Pete Schmidt, and Les Bingle; and her sister-in-law Florence and husband Donald Tessman. Survivors include her children: Linda and husband Mori Shimabukuro of Dothan, Alabama; Michael and wife Joyce Schmidt of Omaha, Nebraska; Joel and wife Charlotte Schmidt of Clive, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jamie and wife Hope Shimabukuro of Mobile, Alabama; Dirk and wife Kristal Shimabukuro of Dothan; Scott and wife Heather Shimabukuro of Sharpsburg, Georgia; Sean Schmidt and Bryson Schmidt both of Omaha; Cory and wife Jessica Schmidt of Adel, Iowa; Miki and husband Nate Weber of Waukee, Iowa; Jeremy and wife Kristy Schmidt of Urbandale, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Katie, Colby, and Devin Shimabukuro of Dothan; Gillian Shimabukuro of Mobile; Caden, Wyatt, and Anabelle Shimabukuro of Sharpsburg; Gavin, Brooklyn, and Brayden Schmidt of Omaha; Gwyneth and Siena Schmidt of Adel; Garrett and Lexi Weber of Waukee; and Caden Schmidt of Urbandale; her sister Joan Bingle and friend Harold of Lenox, Iowa; her brother George and wife Maybelle Parris of Audubon; her brother-in-law Dennis and wife Carol Larsen of Panora, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A very special 'thank you' to her very good friend and 'Guardian Angel' Darlene Soll and to all the nurses of the Friendship home and Hospice who took such good care of our Mother. We will all never forget your kindness.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
