Dallas Strand

Dallas Strand, 76, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dallas was born at home in Atlantic, Iowa, on January 14. 1942, to George August V. and Leona A. (Rechtenbach) Strand. He grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1961.

He joined the US Army in 1964. Before being deployed to Vietnam, he married his high school sweetheart, Madeline Barbara Butler on May 29, 1965, at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.

He worked as a lineman for the Atlantic Municipal Utilities for 35 years, retiring in 2004. Dallas was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Audubon County Conservation Club and he was a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Dallas enjoyed western and square dancing, bike riding, wood working, hunting, fishing, and trap shooting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janice Maxine Robinson; a sister and her husband from Minneapolis, Rosemary and Ward Sibley; and several aunts and uncles.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Barb of Atlantic, IA; his children, Jennifer Denise (Jeff) McDonald of Des Moines, IA, Paul William Strand of Windsor Heights, IA, and Jeff Warren (Sara) Strand of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Andrew Strand, Dalton McDonald, Levi McDonald, Riley Strand, Parker Strand and Kalin Strand; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, IA.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with burial in the Atlantic Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be left to family’s wishes.
