Darlene Marie Dittman, the daughter of Lawrence and Christina (Jensen) Krogh, was born February 15, 1931, at her parents’ home in Audubon County near Brayton, Iowa and died August 11, 2016, at the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 26 days.
Darlene was baptized October 11, 1932, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended rural Audubon County Schools then studied at the Audubon High School in Audubon.
On November 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Gene Jackson in Exira, Iowa. Three children Diane, Bonnie, and Michael were born to this union. Darlene was a homemaker for many years caring for Gene and the children. Gene died on February 6, 1966.
On April 3, 1969, she married Charles Dittman in Tekamah, Nebraska. Two sons Douglas and Dennis were born to this union. Darlene was a homemaker then later became a Certified Nurses’ Assistant and was employed at the Friendship Home in Audubon for many years before she retired. Charles died on March 23, 1996. Darlene lived in her home until 2009 when she moved in and lived with her son Dennis and his wife Laura because of her failing health. She then moved into the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa in June of 2013.
Darlene loved to go fishing, doing crossword puzzles, and watching soap operas. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husbands Gene Jackson and Charles Dittman; her son Michael Jackson; her son-in-law David Lukasik; and her parents.
Survivors include her children Diane Lukasik of Polk City, Iowa, Bonnie and husband Kenneth Jensen of Van Meter, Iowa, Douglas Dittman and Dennis and wife Laura Dittman all of Audubon, Iowa; her grandchildren Sheridyn and husband Jeremy Greenwalt and Carie and husband Mitchell Ostlund all of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Erin and husband Bryce Arnold of Des Moines, Iowa; her great grandchildren Camryn Ostlund, Graham Ostlund, Landon Greenwalt and Liam Greenwalt all of West Des Moines, Iowa and Jaxon Arnold of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Monday, August 15, 2016, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Douglas Dittman, Dennis Dittman, Keith Kowal, Bill Emerson, Demetrius Dominick, and Craig Ehlert. The family will meet with friends on Monday afternoon August 15, 2016, from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
