Darrall Charles Christensen, the son of Henry and Evelyn Deist Christensen, was born November 20, 1939, at his parents home in Keokuk County, Iowa and died October 21, 2010, at his home west of Brayton, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Darrall was baptized and confirmed at the Brayton Lutheran Church. He attended school in Gray, Iowa and also attended the Audubon Community High School in Audubon, Iowa. Darrall then was employed at Beason Chevrolet in Audubon where he worked as a mechanic and did body repair. During this time he also worked the wheat harvest from Texas to the Dakotas.
On February 25, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joyce Christensen at his mothers home in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Des Moines for several years where Darrall worked at his Uncle Arnold Deists service station. In 1961 they returned to the Brayton area and in 1962 they purchased Joyces Grandparents farm west of Brayton. Along with farming, Darrall, worked for the Skelly gas station in Audubon and later at the International Harvester Dealership in Exira, Iowa. Darrall then operated the Audubon Oil Company/Allis Chalmers Dealership in Audubon for over 42 years until it closed in 2004. Since that time, Darrall has operated D.C. Repair shop with his son Doug.
Darrall was a member of the Brayton Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Darrall loved to farm and enjoyed the company of his dog Lulu and his good friend Otis Jensen.
Preceding him in death were his granddaughter Emmi Christensen; his parents; his sister and brother Darlene Christensen and Herbert Christensen; and his sister-in-law Audrey Jorgensen.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Christensen of Brayton, Iowa; his children Douglas Christensen of Exira, Iowa and Becky and husband Brian Cox of Kearney, Nebraska; his grandchildren: Dodi Jensen, Austin and wife Cally Christensen all of Brayton, Ryan Christensen, Jarrett Christensen and Margo Christensen all of Exira, Brianna Cox and Brittany Cox both of Kearney; his great grandchildren: Tyler and Jordan Jensen and Piper Christensen all of Brayton; his brother Gerald and wife Lynette Christensen of Panora, Iowa, his half brother Donald Briggs of Red Oak, Iowa; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marge Christensen of Hamlin, Iowa, Terry and wife Etta Lee Christensen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Andrew and wife Sue Christensen of Wiota, Iowa, Eric John Jorgensen of Audubon, Iowa a half brother-in-law Robert Seamand of Grimes, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Monday, October 25, 2010, at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira, Iowa.
Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Tuesday, October 26, 2010; at 2:00 P.M. at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa.
