Dave Worthington

Dave J Worthington, 74, of Atlantic Iowa, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at his home.

He was born May 11, 1938, to Lester Homer and Ella J (Jones) Worthington in Cumberland, Iowa. Dave attended Cumberland Community Schools until the eighth grade. His family then moved to Atlantic, Iowa, and he attended Atlantic High School through the twelfth grade. Dave was united in marriage to Donnis (Tanner) Christensen in 1965.

Dave worked for many years at the Atlantic State Bank and Walnut Grove Feeds. While working at Walnut Grove Feeds he began to engage in farming and continued to farm until retirement. He was a member of the Atlantic Elks Lodge #445 for 47 years. Dave was one of the original members of the Nishna Hills Golf Club and served on the board of directors numerous times. He also served two years in the United States Army Reserve.

He loved to golf but more importantly he loved his card and coffee groups, those were times that were not messed with. Dave loved to tease, joke, and be ornery. He took great pride in his cars, almost to an obsession. He sold tickets for the Atlantic High School football games for over 20 years. Dave's ultimate pride and joy were his granddaughters, whom he was always very proud of.


He is survived by his daughter, Denise and her husband, Alan King of Atlantic, Iowa; his granddaughters, Sara D King and Hanna Lou King, both of Atlantic; his sister, Mary Ann and husband, Robert Sothman of Ava, Missouri; his special friend, Linda Marek of Anita, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ella Worthington; his brother, Stanley Worthington; his brother-in-law, Richard Lindeman; and his niece, Lori English.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic. Visitation with family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
