David B. Anderson, 73, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015, at the Douglas County Health Center in Omaha.
David Bruce Anderson was born December 14, 1941, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Victor and Marne Jorgina (Christiansen) Anderson. He attended schools in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School with the class of 1959. He went on to graduate from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. On May 30, 1964, he married Donna Rae Larson in Harlan, Iowa.
Dave enlisted in the U.S. Army October 3, 1966, in Omaha, NE. After serving in Vietnam and reaching the rank of SPE5, he was honorably discharged on October 3, 1969, in Ft. Hood, Texas.
He and Donna lived in various southwest Iowa towns while he taught high school business classes in Shelby and Council Bluffs, while earning his Master's Degree in Education from UNO. In 1979, his family relocated to Charition, IA, where he owned and operated a radio station until he returned to teaching in Denison, IA in 1984. He taught at Denison High School for 20 years, retiring in 2004. They were residents of Denison for 30 years.
Dave belonged to the American Legion, the VFW, was a former member of the Atlantic Jaycees and had been president of the Chariton, IA Chamber of Commerce. He never missed his children's or grandchildren's school activities or sporting events. As grandparents, he and Donna traveled all over the state to attend Iowa High School Rodeos, never missing them when his health allowed. He often shared stories of his youth about his dog, Coke, and horse, Dusty, with his kids and grandkids. Later in life, he enjoyed time with his dogs, Pepper, and going for walks at the Denison Airport with Izzy.
Preceding Dave in death were his parents, Victor and Jorgina Anderson; brother, Gene Anderson; and his parents-in-law, Ray and Ruth Larson.
Those surviving Dave are his wife, Donna Anderson of Omaha, NE; his daughter, Staci (Randy) Rohlk and their children, Jordan and Autumn Rohlk all of Ida Grove, IA and his son, Greg (Angie) Anderson and their children, Landon, Alexandra and Vincent Anderson all of Grimes, IA.
There will be a celebration of David's life at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Douglas County Health Center at 4102 Woolworth Ave., Omaha, NE, with refreshments afterwards for a time to visit with family. Interment of ashes will be held the same day at 3:00 p.m. in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.
