David Charles Lund, the son of Ralph and Betty ( Reininger) Lund, was born August 19, 1942, in Shenandoah, Iowa and died May 20, 2016, at his home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 9 months, and 1 day.
David was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah. He attended Shenandoah Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1960. He studied at the Clarinda Junior College for a short time then moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he attended the Omaha Institute of Art. He received his accreditation in 1965 and was employed by Kirkham Michael Consulting Engineers where he designed bridges.
In 1976 he married Linda Elaine Comte at the Courthouse in Omaha, Nebraska. They were blessed with one daughter Crystal. They lived in Gretna, Nebraska for many years and David continued working for Kirkham Michael until he retired due to his failing health. He lived in Lewisville, Nebraska for a short time before moving to Audubon, Iowa in January of 2004.
David was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting and building projects. David was an avid fan of Debra Harry and the group “Blondie”, he enjoyed watching TV and working on cars.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ralph and Betty Lund.
Survivors include his daughter Crystal Louise Lonneberg of New York City, New York; his sisters Ann and husband Larry McDonald of Chillicothe, Missouri and Judy and husband Roger Malmberg of Audubon, Iowa; his nieces and nephews Sean McDonald of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris McDonald of New York City, New York, Kimberly Fangman and fiancé Alan Vonnahme both of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Jody and husband Lonn Kiehne of Urbandale, Iowa, Jen and husband T.J. Paustian of Grimes, Iowa, and Missy and husband Adam Welch of Waukee, Iowa; his great nieces and great nephews Ian McDonald of Kansas City, MO, Ethan Kiehne of Urbandale, IA, Adam Fangman of Omaha, Nebraska, Cara Fangman of Kansa City, MO, Jake Paustian and Hannah Paustian both of Grimes, IA; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Antony Mathew of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon on Monday, May 23, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery south of Audubon. The casket bearers will be Lonn Kiehne, T.J. Paustian, Adam Welch, and Alan Vonnahme.
