David Curt Curtis, the son of Laurence and Anne Dorothy Harvey Curtis, was born January 2, 1945, in Boston, Massachusetts, and died December 27, 2008, at his home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 25 days.
David was baptized and confirmed at the Catholic Church in Roslindale, Massachusetts. He attended Parochial School in Roslindale. In February of 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Marines. During his tour of duty he was stationed in Key West, Florida at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged in June of 1966. He moved to Omaha, Nebraska and was employed as a welder for Fruehauf Company which later became LBT.
On August 26, 1967, he was united in marriage to Patricia Crouse at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Audubon. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska. David continued to work for Fruehauf/LBT where he eventually became the general manager. They moved to Audubon, Iowa in 1998. David commuted from Audubon to Omaha until he retired in 2006. During his retirement he helped his wife, Pat, establish and operate the Audubon Art and Antique Gallery and helped renovate the John James Audubon Tea Room.
David was a member of the Audubon Chamber of Commerce and the Audubon County Tourism.
Preceding him in death were his daughter Amy Curtis; his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Wayne and Elinor Crouse; his sister Catherine Winkler; his brother Lawrence Curtis and his sister-in-law Charlotte Maggard.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Curtis; his daughter Jenny Curtis, both of Audubon, IA; his brother William and wife Marie Curtis of Milton, MA; his brother-in-law Dr. Thomas Winkler of Lexington, MA; his sister-in-law Grete Curtis of Quincy, MA; his brothers-in-law William Gerhard and wife Valerie Keffala-Gerhard of Iowa City, IA and Allen Maggard of Glenwood Springs, CO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would prefer memorials to the Audubon County Endowment Fund.
Service:
The family will gather with friends to celebrate Davids life on Friday, January 2, 2009 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the John James Audubon Tea Room in Audubon, IA. David donated his body to Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
