David Littler

David Dean Littler, 57, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.

He was born April 11, 1957, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, the son of Robert and Betty (Cooper) Littler. Dave grew up in Adair and spent one year in Bayard when he was 14 years old. His father then relocated the family back to Adair. He moved to Anita in 1976 and remained there. He attended Adair-Casey High School and Southwestern Community College for his auto mechanics trade certificate.

Dave was united in marriage to Mary Kluever on August 20, 1976. They went their separate ways in 2001. He started his employment years at Hudson Gas Station then to the Gilliland I-80 Standard Station until 1977, both in Adair. Dave then worked for O.W. Shaffer and Son until it closed in 1993. He opened and operated Littler Automotive in 1993, until he became ill in 2013.

He was a member of the Adair Presbyterian Church until 1976 and most recently attended the United Methodist Church of Anita. He tore apart his first motor at the age of 6. The lawn mower was never the same again! He would never tell if he got it all back together again. His love of cars took him to the lifelong love of working on Chevys. He had received a Certified Master Technician Award from General Motors and was a Chevrolet Master technician. His love of motorcycles has been lifelong as well. Dave loved to ride his dirt bikes as a kid, graduating to his Suzuki 500 street bike. He loved to give people rides on his Honda with a sidecar. His pride and joy has been his Harley 883.

Dave enjoyed attending his daughters' school activities when they were younger and most recently, spending time with his daughters and their families. He also liked to golf and fish.

He is survived by his daughters, Tara (Cory) Littler-Scholl and their two sons, Tanner and Cooper all of Atlantic, Iowa, and Amber (Corey) Chalupa and their two children, Owen and Makayla all of Waukee, Iowa; his mother, Betty Littler of Guthrie Center, IA; three brothers, Chuck Littler of Iowa City, IA, Dr. John (Karen) Littler of Casey, IA and Philip (Deb) Littler of Dexter, IA; his sister-in-law, Peggy Powell of Iowa City, IA; his brother-in-law, Mike Kluever of Anita, IA; his uncles, Edward Littler II of Adair, IA and Bob (Alice) Cooper of Waukee, IA; his lifelong friend, Mary Christensen of Elk Horn, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, Robert Littler, and his parents-in-law, Duane and Shirley Kluever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the family to be used per Dave's wishes at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Anita.
