Dean Kopp

Dean L. Kopp, 81, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Dean Lenore Coon was born July 6, 1925, at home in Shelby county near Gates, northwest of Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Nellie (Smith) Coon.

She attended rural schools in Shelby, Audubon, and Cass counties and graduated from the Anita High School in 1943, taking Normal Training in High School.

Dean taught for 17 years in rural schools in Cass and Audubon counties and in grades in the Audubon and Walnut School Systems.
On July 18, 1959, Dean married Leo Michael Kopp in Adair. She helped Leo on the farm.
In her early years, she belonged to Pythian Sisters and the American Legion Auxiliary and the ODO Club. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Adair.

After Leo's death, she did some substitute teaching; then worked at motels in Adair for several years. When she moved to Anita, she worked for the Mullen Funeral Homes and the Hockenberry Mullen Homes for several years.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Kopp of Kansas City, Kansas, Mary Ward and her husband, Nathan "Bingo" of Atlantic, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Sister Mary Yvonne Kopp R.S.M.; as well as nieces and nephews.

Dean was proceeded in death by her mother, Nellie in 1960; her father, Kenneth in 1975; her sister, Carmen in 1977; her husband, Leo in 1980; a grandson, Albert in 1994; and two nieces.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2007, at St. John's Catholic Church in Adair, Iowa.

A Scriptural Prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, followed with visitation with the family at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair.

Dean's ashes will be buried at a later date in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Adair, Iowa.

The family is requesting that memorials go to the American Cancer Society in Dean's memory.
