Debra Kay McMichael, the daughter of Arthur and Barbara (Heater) Lappe, was born April 24, 1957, in Carroll, Iowa and died November 24, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 59 years and 7 months.
Debra was baptized and confirmed at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended the Coon Rapids Community Schools and the Coon Rapids High School.
On November 9, 1974, she was united in marriage to Merle McMichael at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids. They were blessed with three children Eric, Stacy Jo, and Christy. Debra helped Merle operate their farm north of Audubon, Iowa. They grew row crops and raised livestock. During this time Debra was also a home maker taking care of the home and helping to raise the children. Several years later she was employed as a dietary aide at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa where she worked until she had to retire due to her failing health.
Debra’s greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a good cook but enjoyed going out to eat especially the hot beef’s at the Chatter Box Café in Audubon and the Danish Inn in Elk Horn, Iowa. Debra spent many enjoyable hours “junking” at the many antique shops. She enjoyed driving her four wheel drive Ranger around the country side and also enjoyed watching westerns on TV especially “Gun Smoke” and anything with John Wayne.
Debra was preceded in death by her Daughter Stacy Jo McMichael; her parents; her brother Orrin Lappe; a nephew Chris Lappe; and her father-in-law Thomas McMichael.
Survivors include her husband Merle McMichael of Audubon, Iowa; her children Eric McMichael and Tami Johansen of Audubon, Iowa and Christy and husband Todd Springston of Templeton, Iowa; her grandchildren Ethan, Adrianna, Austin, and Corbin McMichael all of Audubon, Iowa and Brooklynn Springston of Templeton, Iowa; her sisters and brother Diane Lappe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sheila Lappe of Templeton, Iowa and Fred and wife Ruth Lappe of Auburn, Iowa; her mother-in-law Norma McMichael of Audubon, Iowa; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Neal McMichael, Noel McMichael and Lisa and husband John Hansen all of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Monday evening, November 28, 2016, at 5:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Daiker on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the Ross Calvary United Methodist Church in Ross, Iowa. Interment will be in the Cameron Township Cemetery north of Ross. The Casket bearers will be Jacob Jacobsen, John Lee Hansen, John Hansen, Jr., Neal McMichael, Noel McMichael, Jeff Lappe and Brian Lappe.
