Delmar Dwayne Yager, the son of Gifford and Helen (Stone) Yager, was born January 27, 1943, in Carroll, Iowa and died April 17, 2020, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
Delmar was baptized at the Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church south of Viola Center in Audubon County. He attended the Viola Consolidated School and then graduated from Audubon High School with the Class of 1960. Delmar studied at Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines, Iowa and received his HVAC certification. He then returned to help operate the family farm.
On April 5, 1965, he was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served with the 9th Engineer Battalion in Germany. Delmar was honorably discharged on March 31, 1967. He farmed for a short time then worked repairing the railroad tracks for the Milwaukee Railroad and later for the Rock Island Railroad until he retired.
Delmar enjoyed his home in Coon Rapids, Iowa, then moved to the University Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Des Moines.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gifford and Helen Yager; his sisters, Marilyn Benna and Evonne Schaaf; and his brothers, Virlyn Yager and Charles “Chuck” Yager.
Survivors include his brother, Jerry and wife Elaine Yager of Coon Rapids, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be viewing Thursday morning, April 30, 2020, from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa followed by a graveside service at 11:00 A.M. at the Viola Cemetery northeast of Audubon.
