Delores Walters

Delores Elrane Bald was the sixth of eleven children born to Harry and Gladys Jensen Bald in Leroy Township, Audubon, Iowa, on January 25, 1941. She went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at her home in Audubon at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Delores was baptized at Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church in Audubon on May 31, 1942. She attended Audubon Community Schools.

On September 27, 1956, Delores married Gary Dean Walters at Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church in Audubon. A son, Timothy, and a daughter, Janie, were born to this union.

Over the course of years, Delores worked at the Friendship Home in Audubon, the Masonic Nursing Home in Perry, Iowa, the Park View Manor in Woodward, Iowa, and did housekeeping for people. In the nursing homes Delores worked as a nurse's aide, in housekeeping, and food preparation. In the summers she would be out in the cornfields detasseling with Gary, Tim and Janie. She was always an example of the value of hard work to her family and all who knew her.

Delores and Gary retired in Audubon after being gone for thirty-three years. They became members of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon. Her faith in the Lord was a witness to all. If someone needed help, she was right there ready to do what was needed. She served the Lord by serving others.

Delores enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, canning, working, but most of all she loved her family. Her face would light up if she talked to one of them on the phone, or when their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids came to see them. They were special and she made sure they knew that.

Delores is survived by her husband, Gary Walters of Audubon, IA; her son, Tim Walters of Elliot, IA; her daughter, Janie Flinn, of Audubon, IA; three grandchildren, Matthew Dick of Rippey, IA, Jeremy Walters of Des Moines, IA, Melissa Vacha and husband, Tyler of Lyons, NE; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Austyn Vacha of Lyons, NE. She is, also, survived by her brothers and sisters: Living in Audubon: Alvie and wife Sandra Bald, Dallas and wife Doris Bald, Gary and wife Joanne Bald, Karen and husband Wayne Heuss, Connie and husband Marcel Fett; her sisters-in-law, Joyce Bald of Cameron, MO, Judy and husband Jack Burns of Glidden, IA; sisters-in-law, Kathy and husband Jim Marten of Atlantic, IA, Judy and husband Gary Duffield of Ft. Dodge, IA, Joan Miller of Guthrie Center, IA; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Harry Bald; her sister, Mary Ann and husband LeRoy Peterson; her sister, Elaine Bald; her brother, Darrell and wife Gail; her brother, Merlin; her mother-in-law, Francis and father-in-law, Folmer Walters; brother-in-law, Gary Miller; and niece, Susan Lebeck. She is now gathered to her people, a family reunion, and they stand before their Lord Jesus, praising Him for their salvation.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa, with burial of ashes in Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Family will visit with friends at a luncheon following the memorial service.
