Dennis Dean Brown was born May 6, 1940, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of George and Burnidette Irene (Doty) Brown and passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa.
He grew up on the family farm outside Cumberland. After his mother passed away he was raised by his grandmother and his bachelor uncles. Dennis attended country school and the Cumberland High School. On April 13, 1959, he married Karen Maxine Bruner in Bedford, IA. Dennis was a grain hauler and gravel truck driver as well as working over 30 years at Henningson Construction. After he retired, Dennis drove for RSLLC.
Dennis enjoyed motorcycles, old cars, playing Bingo, attending swap meets, bike nights and car shows, and watching Family Feud. He loved telling stories, playing practical jokes and making people laugh. He took pride in fixing up and customizing his old cars and bikes. He was a lifelong cruiser. Denny was on top of the world when he could shine up his ride, turn on the oldies and just cruise.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Brown; his son, Alan Brown; his parents, George and Burnidette Brown; and his brothers, Delbert, George, Neal, Lee and Eugene Brown.
He is survived by his daughters, Julie Brown of Cumberland, IA and Lila (Darren) Lassen of Red Oak, IA; his grandchildren, Laurie (Brian Driscoll) Vogl of Kansas City, MO, Waylon (Gretchen) Vogl of Des Moines, IA, Willie (Rachel) Vogl of Cumberland, IA, Charlie Lassen of Red Oak, IA; his great-grandchildren, Patience Vogl of Roanoke, TX, Gavin Stewart of Cumberland, IA and Addyson Vogl of Cumberland, IA; his sisters, Jeanette Hansen of Grand Island, NE, Rosella Dahlin of Casa Mesa, CA, Carol Dorsch of Omaha, NE and Burnidette Edwards of Pollock, LA; his daughter-in-law, Shirley Brown of Cumberland, IA; his special friend, Jeannie Love of Atlantic, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013, with
memorial services at 1:30 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2013, both at the Cumberland Community Building in Cumberland, IA.
Burial will be in the Newlon's Grove Cemetery, northeast of Lyman, Iowa.
