Dennis Gene Annan, the son of Quentin Lee and Bonnie Marie (Gauvreau) Annan was born September 20, 1949, in Clarinda, Iowa. He peacefully passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, in the company of family and friends.
Denny was raised in Iowa, living in Ames, Sidney, and Atlantic, where he graduated from Atlantic High School in 1967. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1971. While stationed in Germany, he volunteered for and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his discharge from the Army, Denny lived in Denver, Colorado, before returning to Atlantic.
He was united in marriage to Rose Marie Govig on October 17, 1981. Two children were born to this union, Amanda and Alexander.
Denny was employed at Glacier/ Mahle for 25 years before taking a leave of absence due to health concerns. In earlier years, he worked in construction and for Lloyd & Meredith.
Denny had many loves in his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, cooking, gardening and spending time with his family. He held a deep appreciation and love for animals, and had many wonderful furry companions in his life. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and was a member of ABATE of Iowa. Denny had a wonderful sense of humor and his distinctive laugh will be greatly missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his father, Quentin Annan; his grandparents, John and Mabel Gauvreau, and Claude and Norma Annan.
Denny is survived by his children, Amanda (Andrew) Freeman of San Diego, California, and Alexander Annan of Sioux City, Iowa; his mother, Bonnie Cranston of Mississippi; his fiancé, Rhoda Kuhns of Atlantic, Iowa; his sisters, Marcia (Duane) Hockenberry of Anita, Iowa, Tammy Lett of Mississippi, Sherry Cranston of Atlantic, Iowa, Janice Annan of Oklahoma, Julie (Chris) Cox of Boone, Iowa; and his brother, Mike Annan of Charlotte, North Carolina; his aunt, Val Hatcher of Mississippi; his uncles, Norman (Joy) Annan and Barry (Sharon) Annan all of Omaha, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2009, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 10, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
A private family burial of cremated remains will take place in the Clarinda Cemetery.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that a memorial be designated in Denny's name. Designations may be sent to Hockenberry Family Care 1804 E. 7th Street, Atlantic, Iowa, 50022.
