Devon Carr

Devon Ann Carr, 59, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, Iowa.

She was born March 14, 1955, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Milo and Barbara (Eades) Mardesen. Devon was raised in Anita, Iowa, and attended the Anita Community Schools. She graduated from Anita High School with the class of 1973. She later attended college and obtained her associates degree in nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Devon was united in marriage to Terry Carr on April 14, 1978, in Griswold, Iowa. They made their home in Anita and had two amazing children, Megan and Cody. Terry passed away in 2006. Devon worked for local nursing homes for many years and for the Cass County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.

She was a lifelong member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita. Devon also belonged to the church crotchet club. She often volunteered at the Anita Community Center helping children with gardening and other activities. Devon found great joy in volunteering at the Anita schools for functions with her grandchildren.

Devon had many hobbies and interests which included sewing, crafting, gardening, cooking and canning, and was very talented at all of them. As with most grandmothers, her greatest love was her granddaughters. That love also included helping her "other children", "other grandchildren", and those who did not have a grandmother. She most recently enjoyed traveling and taking "road trips" or vacations with her friends. Devon also was able to experience a trip to Europe with one of Terry's cousins, after Terry's death.

Preceding Devon in death were her parents, Milo and Barbara Mardesen; her husband, Terry Carr; and her sisters, Dana Williams and Kristy O'Brien.

Survivors include her daughter, Megan Carr of Anita, Iowa; her son, Cody Carr of Des Moines, Iowa; her granddaughters, Kydie Woolsey and Brylee Samples; her brothers, Dean (Ilene) Mardesen of Elliot, Iowa, Curt (Denise) Mardesen of Elk Horn, Iowa, and Marty (Janet) Mardesen of Anita, Iowa; nieces, nephews, her "other children" and many friends.

Visitation with family will be from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita, Iowa.

A lunch at the Anita Community Center will be held following the memorial service and the interment of ashes will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery after the lunch.
