Dixie Spencer

Dixie Lou Weaver was born October 5, 1932, the daughter of John William and Eula Fay (Goodwin) Weaver at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away August 17, 2012, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital.

She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1950. In 1951, Dixie was married to Nelson C. Spencer in Fort Carson, Colorado. The couple moved to the Audubon area in 1961. Dixie moved to her current home in Hamlin in 1975.

Dixie was employed at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide from 1968 to 1991. She then provided in home care to several people in Audubon. She also worked at the Friendship Home in Audubon until her retirement in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Eula Weaver; her brother, Bob Weaver; and her sisters, Glenda Tuttle and Rhonda Phipps.

Dixie is survived by her children, Norman Spencer of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Vicki Blum of Omaha, Nebraska, Valerie Stetzel of Brayton, Iowa, Don (Sue) Spencer of Ames, Iowa, and Jeff Spencer of Hamlin, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Carol Ann (Junior) Fleming of Audubon, Iowa; her brothers, Jim (Elsie) Weaver of Indianola, Iowa, Phil (Marty) Weaver of Norwalk, Iowa, and Alan (Shelly) Weaver of Indianola, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Bunny Weaver of California; her brothers-in-law, Bob Tuttle of Winterset, Iowa, and Dean Phipps of Des Moines, Iowa; her grand-dogs, Millie, Cody and Blue; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Per Dixie's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

Hockenberry-England Funeral & Cremation Services in Audubon, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
