Dolores (Dee) Skellenger, age 87 of Exira, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Caring Acres Care Center in Anita.
She was born March 14, 1937, to Fred & Goldie (Peterson) Uhlmann at the family farm home in the Adair area. She attended country school in her younger years and graduated from Anita High School in 1955. She was a very hard worker all her life and worked several jobs including Cass County Court House, Anita State Bank, Hy-Vee and retired working part-time at Casey’s.
She loved sewing, making her children’s clothing including Barbie clothes and their Halloween costumes when they were young. She turned her sewing talent into quilt making when she retired, quilting with her friends. All her life she loved cats and even fed all the neighborhood moochers! She loved riding in and going to car shows with her son in either his 1955 or 1956 Chevy.
She is survived by her son, Kim Skellenger of Exira, IA and daughter Jody (Tom) Rayl of Mitchellville, IA; her grandchildren, Russell Skellenger, (Tacia Houston) of Red Oak, IA, and Brooke (Jeremy) Heimbaugh of Mitchellville, IA; her great grandchildren, Easton Skellenger, Paetynn Houston of Red Oak, IA and Gannon Heimbaugh of Mitchellville, IA; her sister Darlene (Ronald) Leib of Indianola, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Fred & Goldie Uhlmann.
A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery north of Adair, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue of Carroll or the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines for her love of cats.
