Donald Schaaf

Donald Schaaf, 86, of Wiota, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.

Donald Schaaf was born September 24, 1921, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, the son of Louie and Dora Schaaf. He grew up in Pottawattamie County, and attended school in the Walnut school system.

He was united in marriage to Marcella Eilts on March 31, 1944 at her parent's home south of Wiota. They farmed south of Wiota until his retirement, when they moved into Wiota. They enjoyed fifty one years of marriage. Donald liked to spend his time during his retirement woodworking, playing cards, and dancing, especially to Big Band music. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Wiota, the Wiota Betterment Committee, the Wiota School Board, and the Wiota Town Council.

Some of Donald's most cherished memories include the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great
grandchildren.

Surviving Donald are his daughter Marsha Cobb and her husband, Donald of Wood River, Illinois; his son, Paul Schaaf and his wife, Shelley of Anita, Iowa; and his daughter, Peggy Glynn and her husband, Jim of Wiota, Iowa; His sister-in-law Irma Schaaf of Atlantic, Iowa; and his good friend and neighbor, Louie Chapman of Wiota, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren with one on the way; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Louie and Dora Schaaf; his wife Marcella; a brother Ron Schaaf; two grandchildren Kimberly Schaaf and Travis Glynn; and a daughter-in-law Tammy Schaaf.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2008, at First Lutheran Church south of Wiota, Iowa. Visitation with family present will be Sunday, April 6, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., at Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, south of Wiota.

Family requests memorials go to the Wiota Fire Department and the Anita Ambulance Fund.
