Dorine Joan Koob

Dorine Joan Koob, the daughter of William and Emma (Larsen) Koob, was the youngest of their five children and was born September 28, 1924, at her parents’ home in Brayton, Iowa and died November 12, 2017, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 1 month, and 15 days.

On April 22, 1956, Dorine became a baptized member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1941.

Dorine taught rural school, Oakfield #2 and Oakfield #5 in the Brayton area for several years. She then attended Cosmetology School in Des Moines, Iowa. She returned to Brayton to live and was employed at a beauty shop in Anita, Iowa, for a short time. Dorine worked with Amanda Lile near the Exira Bank for several years. She then opened her own beauty shop by the Exira Laundromat. Later Dorine was joined by Jan Sorensen and they moved the shop to Main Street in Exira. They worked together for many years until Dorine retired and Jan purchased the business. During retirement she volunteered at the Exira Lutheran Church and for many local Brayton community organizations. Dorine lived in her own home until she moved to the Heritage House in January of 2011.

Dorine was an active member of the Exira Lutheran Church serving on the church council, teaching Sunday school, and served as secretary of the Women of the Church for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brothers: Glen and wife Gertrude Koob, Leo Koob, Jim Koob; her sister Helen Koob; her nephew Virgil Koob; and special friend Rose Boehme.

Survivors include her nieces: Catherine Koob of Anita, Iowa, Linda and husband Max Smith of Anita, Iowa, Rhonda and husband Bob Davidson of Colfax, Iowa; her special friends Jan and Craig (Bub) Sorensen of Exira, Iowa; other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
