Doris A. Allen, 71, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Doris Ann Allen was born April 18, 1936, in Cumberland, Iowa, where she was raised by maternal grandparents Frederic and Malinda Schrader. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Cumberland and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1953. She lived in Cass County her entire life.
Doris was married to George Howard "Mick" Allen on June 5, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Cumberland.
Doris worked at Publishers News from 1965 - 1968 and then went on to serve 25 years with Moorman Feed Company from 1968 - 1993. She more recently worked part time at Sitel Corporation until retiring in 2003.
She was a member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of DOES, Atlantic Drove #23 for many years. She belonged to Nishna Hills Golf Course, the YMCA Silver Sneakers, and was a faithful worshipper and member of the First United Methodist Church.
Doris was known for sending countless cards. She sent cards to just about everyone for every reason. She really treasured playing golf, vacationing in Reno with family, making quilts for her family, and she enjoyed reading. She entertained herself at times by listening to her grandson, Jared Hall, play the piano around the area. But her most cherished moments were spent with her 3 grandchildren.
The qualities Doris was known for in her life, shown through after her death by being an organ donor.
Surviving Doris are her son, Patrick Allen of Sparks, NV; daughters, Sherri Clark and her husband, Randall of Atlantic, IA and Jodi Johnson and her husband, Paul of Reno, NV; her companion, Ken Hinson of Atlantic, IA; grandson, Jared Hall and his friend Emily Grundstad of Des Moines, IA; 2 granddaughters, Melinda Koenig and her husband, Ian of Cambridge, MA and Lindsay Allen and her friend, Geof Landgraf of Bend, OR; brothers, David Schrader and his wife, Sheila of Fort Dodge, IA, Gary Symonds and his wife, Joann of Atlantic, IA and Jim Symonds and his wife, Karen of Dysart, IA; sisters, Barbara Nelson and her husband, Leland and Carolyn Symonds all of Anita, IA; her aunt, Elzene Taylor of Atlantic, IA; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Doris in death were her son, Michael, her parents and grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, with the Reverend Gary DeGeest officiating. Burial will take place in the Atlantic Cemetery. Public viewing will start at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, with family present to greet friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
