Doris M. Conn, 89, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Doris Marie Polson was born September 27, 1921, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Jay and Bessie (Tucker) Polson. She graduated from Creston High School and then attended Creston Junior College. Doris went on to teach school in Lewis before starting her family. On December 31, 1944, she married Harold "Gus" Conn in Missouri.
She loved her family and especially enjoyed making holiday meals for them. Doris made a chocolate cake every Sunday and a different dessert every other day of the week. She canned fruits and vegetables as often as possible, so the family had to buy very little from the store. Doris also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the Crescent Club.
Surviving Doris are her sons, Steve Conn and Gail Conn both of Lewis, Iowa; her daughters, Sue Moser and her husband, Larry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jeanne Weddum and her husband, Kim of Avoca, Iowa; two grandsons, Todd Conn of Harlan, Iowa, and Toby Moser of Scottsville, Kentucky; six granddaughters, Kristy Everett of Griswold, Iowa, Kara Conn of Atlantic, Iowa, Erica Eckmann of Harlan, Iowa, Angie Brockman of Atlantic, Iowa, Rachel Chambers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Trina Rose of Atlantic, Iowa; 23 great-grandchildren; her sister, Myrtle Jones of Northwood, Iowa; and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents, Thomas Jay and Bessie Polson; her husband, Harold "Gus" Conn; her son, Greg Conn; a brother, Kenneth Polson; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Reed Kline; and her brother-in-law, Lloyd Jones.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa.
