Doris Mae Jorgensen

Doris Mae Jorgensen, the daughter of Chris and Nina (Lund) Jensen, was born May 16, 1928, at her parents’ home in Audubon County near Audubon, Iowa and died November 4, 2013, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 18 days. Doris was baptized on June 24, 1928, and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Her spiritual birth was in March of 1980. She attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1946. She attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska and went to work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington D.C. for a short time. She returned to the Exira area and was employed as a telephone operator and later taught country school. In 1950, she was united in marriage to Merlin Sorensen at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. Three children: Suzanne, Linda, and Phillip were born to this union. Doris was a home maker while the children were young. She was employed at Talbot Carlson in Audubon, Iowa as the head secretary. Doris continued her secretarial career with the Rasmussen-Nelson Law Firm in Exira until she retired in the mid 1970’s. In 1974, she married Marvin Jorgensen. Doris was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira for many years and also attended the Federated Church in Exira. Doris loved swimming, listening to music, and was very active in her Bible study. She always enjoyed the onset of spring so she could see all of her flowers bloom and watch the birds eat from their bird feeders. She was really proud of all her grandchildren. She especially loved for them to get together to perform their Christmas program. Doris was preceded in death by her son Phillip Sorensen; her parents; her sister Darlene Hilsabeck; her brother Harvey Jensen; and her nephews: Jerry Hilsabeck and Larry Hilsabeck. Survivors include Marvin Jorgensen of Exira, Iowa; her daughters: Suzanne and husband Denny Kuehl of Atlantic, Iowa; Linda and husband Steve Tibben of Cedar Falls, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Mike Arthur of Frankfort, Illinois; Stephanie Kuehl of Seattle, Washington; Ashley Kuehl of Atlantic; Nathan and wife Kristi Tibben and Ian and wife Brittany Tibben all of Cedar Falls; Sara Mullin, Matt Sorensen and Hilary Sorensen all of Atlantic; her great grandchildren: Taylor, Alexis, and Peyton Arthur; Logan Tibben; Lanna, Lily, and Caden Tibben; and Jackson Mullin; her sister Norma and husband Bob Roberts of Las Vegas, Nevada; her brother Dale and wife Avis Jensen of Mason City, Iowa; her sister-in-law Carrie Jensen of Exira; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa.

Visitation:
Friends may call at their convenience at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be Friday, November 8, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa.
