Dorothea Kuhnle

Dorothea I. Kuhnle, 89, of Atlantic, Iowa, and formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Dorothea Irene Rehbein was born on June 9, 1918, in Briesinitz, Germany, the daughter of Johannes and Ida (Affeld) Rehbein.

In 1952, Dorothea and her daughter, Sybilla came to the United States and settled in Waterloo, Iowa. She was married to Fred Kuhnle on June 1, 1952, in Tripoli, Iowa. While living in Waterloo, Dorothea worked at East High School in the cafeteria.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

Dorothea was an avid reader, gardener and knitter. She also enjoyed walking. Most of all Dorothea loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothea is survived by her daughters, Sybilla Zikuda and her husband, J.D. of Atlantic, Iowa, and Trudi Sines and her husband, Ron of Bettendorf, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer Wagner and her husband, Brian of Lawrence, Kansas, Jessica Mathisen and her husband, Mike of Atlantic, Iowa, Justine Reed and her husband, Joel of Independence, Iowa, Reon Sines and her fiancé, Jared of Kirksville, Missouri, Eric Sines of Bettendorf, Iowa, Ryan Sines and his fiancé, Pam of Port Washington, Wisconsin, and Adam Sines of Bettendorf, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Parker, Brady Wagner, Cora Mathisen, and Tristan Mathisen; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Johannes and Ida Rehbein; two brothers; and three sisters.

Memorial services in Atlantic will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic with The Reverend Dennis Meyer officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Memorial services in Waterloo will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo with The Reverend Randolph McHone officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Burial of ashes will be at Garden of Memories in Waterloo, Iowa.
