Dorothy Ann Hansen

Dorothy Ann Hansen, the daughter of Earl and Esta Bengaard Frederick, was born March 11, 1934, at her parents’ home in Exira Township, Audubon County, Iowa and died August 1, 2011, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural school in Exira Township and then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1952. On September 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Donald Leroy Hansen. Five sons were born to this union. Dorothy was a home maker while the boys were young and was also the book keeper for their plumbing business. In the mid 1970’s she was employed in the housekeeping department of the Wise Owl Motel that was located at the Valley. Later she was employed at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa where she worked in the laundry department for over 20 years. Dorothy then worked at the Heritage House in Atlantic until she retired. During retirement Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and going to the casinos. She loved country music and her favorite artist was Toby Keith. Dorothy was a member of the Exira Christian Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughters-in-law Rosmarie Hansen and Nancy Hansen. Survivors include her sons Randy and wife Kathy Hansen of Brayton, Iowa, Robert (Bob) and wife Lisa Hansen of Atlantic, Iowa, Richard (Rick) and wife Janet Hansen of Audubon, Iowa, Roger and wife Brenda Hansen of Wiota, Iowa and Rodney and wife Nancy Hansen of Audubon; her grandchildren Michael Hansen and friend Julie Charles of Atlantic, Jay Jensen and fiancée Tracy Glidden of Audubon, Jason and wife Teri Jensen of Ames, Iowa, Stephanie Hansen and fiancée Derek Herron of Audubon, Raychelle and husband Jason Thelen of Pensacola, Florida, Rebekah and husband Bart Ver Mulm of Orange City, Iowa, Brandon Hansen and Garrett Hansen both of Audubon; her great grandchildren Stone Hansen of Atlantic, Geena Jensen and Kyle Jensen both of Ames, Tyler Jensen and Jordan Jensen both of Brayton, Jennifer Jensen of Audubon, Jursie Thelen and Kaylie Thelen both of Pensacola, and Chase Ver Mulm, Colt Ver Mulm, and Brynn Ver Mulm all of Orange City; her sister; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery.

Visitation:
Friends may call at their convenience at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira. The family will be meeting with friends at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Christian Church.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira.
