Dorothy J. Bode, 78, a lifelong Cass County, Iowa resident, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dorothy Joy Bode was born December 11, 1927, in Griswold, Iowa, the daughter of Martin Dean and Hyla Amanda (Vedane) Wooley.
She was raised in Griswold and was a 1945 graduate of the Griswold High School.
On March 14, 1946, Dorothy married William "Bill" Bode at her parent's home in Griswold.
She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, where she was a Deacon and took part in the Voyagers Club. She also did volunteer work for the local food pantry.
Dorothy worked at the former Super Value Grocery Store and at HyVee, both in Atlantic.
She had a circle of close friends that had a "phone tree" in which the members would call each other every morning to make sure they were all alive and well. Dorothy loved her coffee and did the "Jumbo" puzzle every morning. Many in this area will remember Dorothy as a jovial and friendly person.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Larry Bode of Polk City, Iowa; her daughter, Judy and her husband, Lorrell Borkowski of Harlan, Iowa; a grandson, Derik Bode and his significant other, Kenna Jackson, both of Woodward, Oklahoma; three sisters, Virginia Rothe of Griswold, Iowa, Josie Curtis of Atlantic, Iowa, Helen Landon and her husband, Leland of Atlantic, Iowa; a brother-in-law, George Bode, Jr. of Lewis, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Clara Hansen of Lewis, Iowa, Donna Nyberg of Omaha, Nebraska, and LaQuita Bode of Independence, Missouri; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Hyla Wooley; her husband, Bill, who passed away in 1995; three brothers-in-law, Willard Rothe, Eugene Curtis, and Everett Bode; a sister-in-law, Brenda Bowie; her niece Cheryl Landon, and nephew, Don Curtis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2006, at the First United Presbyterian Church with Reverend Don Seeger officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 5th starting at 10:00 a.m. with the family present from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., at Hockenberry Family Care. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Lewis, Iowa.
The family is requesting that memorials go to the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, in Dorothy's memory.
