Dorothy Mae McGuire, the daughter of George and Johanna Christensen Oelke, was born March 16, 1922 in Audubon, Iowa and died March 11, 2012 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 25 days. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She attended Audubon Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1940. Dorothy moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she attended the VanCent School of Business. She returned to Audubon and was employed as an assistant for Wayne Black, the Audubon County Attorney. Later Dorothy worked as the deputy Clerk of Court for John Crees. On May 31, 1952 she was united in marriage to John Paul McGuire at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. One son William was born to this union. They lived and operated John’s family farm. Dorothy was a homemaker and also enjoyed working in her flower garden. They operated the farm until they retired. John died December 6, 1998. Dorothy lived on the farm for a short time then moved into Audubon. Later Dorothy moved to the Friendship Home in June of 2005. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to several card clubs. She enjoyed entertaining and enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John Paul McGuire; her parents; and her Brother-in-law Francis (Mick) McGuire. Survivors include her son Bill and wife Karen McGuire of Audubon, Iowa; her granddaughter Dr. Katie and husband Dusten Paulus of Spencer, Iowa; her sister Delores and husband George Berry of Overland Park, Kansas; her sister-in-law Margaret McGuire of Perry, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Cemetery:
Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Audubon.
Visitation:
The family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
Service:
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Emmanuel Agwuoke on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon, Iowa.
