Dorothy Wedemeyer

Dorothy M. Wedemeyer, 81, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.

Dorothy Marie Kirchhoff was born on June 18, 1927, on a farm east of Lewis, Iowa in Bear Grove Township, the daughter of George and Lena (Beisser) Kirchhoff.

Dorothy attended country school, graduated from Lewis High School, and then attended Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines. Following college, she worked as a beautician in Atlantic, Red Oak and Lewis for many years.

On July 20, 1952, she was united in marriage to Glen Wedemeyer at Fletcher Chapel Methodist Church. The couple lived in Arkansas and Oklahoma before moving to Audubon County where they started farming, and in 2004, they moved to Adair.

Dorothy was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, where she served as treasurer of the Lutheran Women's Mission League. She was also a member of the Oakridge Club.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and traveling. Most of all Dorothy loved spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 56 years, Glen; her children, Kevin Wedemeyer of Anita, Iowa, Dwight Wedemeyer and his wife, Angie of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Linda Eilts and her husband, Tom of Wiota, Iowa; her six grandchildren, Paul and Lucas Wedemeyer, Eric and Sara Wedemeyer, Jason Eilts, and Jessica Barber and her husband, T.J.; her great-grandchildren, Karley and Briauna Eilts and Lillian Barber; her sister-in-law, Connie Kirchhoff; and her brother-in-law, Bernard Grubbs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marjorie Grubbs; her brothers, Lloyd Kirchhoff and LaVerne Kirchhoff; and her grandson, Benjamin Wedemeyer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa, with Reverend Timothy J. Fitzner officiating.

Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Adair.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, with the family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice in Atlantic, Iowa.
