Duane F. Kluever, 73, of Anita, Iowa, passed away February 5, 2007, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa.
Franklin Duane Kluever was born on the family farm on May 24, 1933, the son of Raymond Emil and Ida (Sorensen) Kluever. He lived most of his life south of Anita and graduated from Anita High School.
On February 8, 1953, he was married in Lyman, Iowa, to Norma Irene Pigsley, and on August 19, 1954 he was married to Shirley Jean Rogge in Anita, Iowa.
Duane served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. He worked as a telephone line man and after the service he farmed in Lincoln Township in Cass County.
He was the founder and creator of the VHM Hogs. Duane was a life long member of the Anita United Methodist Church and a member of Crestwood Hills and the Investment Club. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and was an avid cribbage and pitch player.
Duane is survived by a son, Mike "Chop" Kluever of Anita, Iowa; daughters, Mary Beth Christensen and her husband, Troy of Elk Horn, Iowa, and Diane McDermid and her husband Doug of Muscatine, Iowa; four grandchildren, Aaron McDermid of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jesse McDermid of Newton, Iowa, Tara Littler of Atlantic, and Amber Chalupa and her husband, Corey of Waukee; loved and trusted friend, Dave Littler; two sisters, Betty Hyndman of Des Moines and Sharon Christensen and her husband, Lynn of Bridgewater, Iowa; sister-in-law, Marie Knop of Atlantic and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Shirley on September 2, 1994; his first wife Norma on July 13, 1953; and his parents, Ray and Ida.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at the Anita United Methodist Church, with a luncheon immediately following the services.
Burial of his ashes will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.
Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita is in charge of the arrangements.
