Dwaine Ernst

Dwaine Arthur Ernst was born March 22, 1941, in Adair County, Iowa, the son of Arthur Oscar and Mary Eliza (Hubbard) Ernst and passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Atlantic, Iowa.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. Dwaine graduated from the Adair High School with the class of 1959.

On October 20, 1962, he married Helen Carol Halvorsen at the United Methodist Church in Indianola. Dwaine lived and farmed in Adair County his entire life.

He was known for his passion for farming, his willingness to have a cup of coffee, a friendly wave from his truck, his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and his special love for his grandchildren.

Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Ernst, his sister, Darlene Ernst and his brothers-in-law, Calvin Halvorsen, Dean Halvorsen and Vallee Halvorsen.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Adair, IA; his children, Kevin (Judy) Ernst of Van Meter, IA, Diane (Pete) Temple of Monticello, IA and Lori (Greg) Clay of Anita, IA; his grandchildren, Kaytlyn and Zachary Ernst of Van Meter, IA, Levi and Ian Temple of Monticello, IA and Ellan Clay of Anita, IA; his aunt, Sally Hubbard, formerly of Casey; his brother-in-law, Allen (Phyllis) Halvorsen of Indianola, IA; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Halvorsen of Osceola, IA and Vicki Halvorsen of Eldora, IA; other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair.

Burial of cremated remains will be in the Sunnyhill Cemetery following the service.
