Earl M. Brindley, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

Earl Milton Brindley was born August 6, 1924, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Ethel (Paulsen) Brindley.

He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1942. Following high school he joined the United States Air Force serving his country from 1943-1945. Earl was a B-17 radio operator for a crew that flew missions over Europe.

On July 20, 1947, Earl married Ruth Marie Palmer at her parent's home in Atlantic.

Earl owned and operated Brindley Auto Body in Atlantic for over 30 years.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the First United Methodist Church, both in Atlantic.

Earl is survived by his daughter, Carol Lane and her husband, Curt of Omaha, Nebraska; his son, Tom Brindley and his wife, Karen of Edina, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Thomas Earl Brindley of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Claire Brindley of Chicago, Illinois, and Leah Brindley of Edina, Minnesota; his sister, Jean Gearheart of Atlantic, Iowa; as well as nieces, nephews and many close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ethel Brindley; his wife, Ruth in 2007; his brother, Leo Brindley; and his sister, Marjorie Mikkelsen.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2009, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, with Reverend Dick Krambeck of Pine Grove United Methodist Church officiating.

Open visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. No specific family hours have been set.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa. Following services at the cemetery the family invites you to join them for fellowship and lunch at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic.
