Edward Oral Phippen, 52, passed away Monday, March 24, 2008.
Edward was born on March 16, 1956, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Oral Jeremiah and Winifred Nina (Katcher) Phippen.
He attended school at St. William's Catholic School in Alta Vista, Iowa, through 8th grade and then went on to New Hampton High School. Edward attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work. Ed worked in various fields including the Juvenile Probation in Red Wing, Minnesota. He chose to move to the Atlantic area where most recently he was employed as a targeted case manager, Social Worker II in Audubon, Iowa.
Edward was joined in marriage to Julie Ann Follmann on April 16, 1994, at the First Baptist Church in Atlantic. They have two children, Amanda Jean and Jezidiah Owen.
Ed's pastimes included his family, friends, and his various exotic animals. He was active in the Cass County 4-H as a Superintendent of the Poultry Department. Ed was always eager to lend a hand during the county fair. During his involvement with his cattle, he became a member of the American Dexter Cattle Association.
Ed is survived by his wife, Julie of Atlantic, Iowa; one daughter, Amanda; one son, Jezidiah both at home in Atlantic, Iowa; four sisters, Carol Cerwinske and her husband, Ron of Ramsey, Minnesota, Audrey Larson of Greenwood, Wisconsin, Diane King and her husband, Paul of Rose Creek, Iowa, and Linda Carter and her husband, Dale of Plainfield, Iowa; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Barb Follmann of Massena, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Rick Follmann of Woodbine, Iowa, and Gary Follmann of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Other survivors include nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral Jeremiah and Winifred Nina Phippen; his grandparents; and his brother-in-law, Jerome Larson.
The family has honored Ed's request for cremation and a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.
Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the services beginning at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited for light refreshments following the memorial service.
