Edna M. Kjergaard

Edna Marie Kjergaard, the daughter of Claus J. and Ellen Marie Lauritzen Larsen, was born July 11, 1907, northeast of Kimballton, Iowa and died May 14, 2009, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 101 years, 8 months, and 3 days.
Edna was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton. She attended rural schools in the Kimballton and Casey areas and then helped at home.
On September 21 of 1941, she was united in marriage to Jens Bork Kjergaard at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton, IA. Two children James and Mary were born to this union. Edna was a homemaker. She enjoyed raising flower gardens and vegetable gardens. They lived on the farm until they moved into Audubon in 1979. Bork died December 7, 1995. Edna enjoyed her home then moved into the Friendship Home in Audubon in the spring of 2003.

Edna was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church for years. They transferred their memberships to Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Audubon when they moved to Audubon. She was a member of several neighborhood clubs and sewing clubs. She enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans and other items. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spoiled them every chance she could.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bork; her parents; her brothers and sisters: Edward & Lela Larsen, Lillian Woodruff, Herb and Regina Larsen; sisterin-law: Elizabeth Larsen, brothers and sisters-in-law: Caroline and Elmer Christensen, Andreas Kjergaard, Dagny and Howard Klinkefus.
Survivors include her children: James and Kay Kjergaard of Audubon, IA and Mary and Jim Johnston of Silver City, IA; her grandchildren: Michelle and husband Mitch Hansen of Dallas Center, IA, Brian and wife Paula Kjergaard of Kimballton, IA, Chad and wife Marcy Johnston of Glenwood, IA, Kate and husband Matt Ostanik of Dallas Center, IA, Reed Johnston and fianc Jennifer Hopp and Amy and husband Michael Hopp all of Glenwood, IA; her great grandchildren: Alex and Spencer Hansen of Dallas Center, IA, Kennedy, Madison and Harrison Kjergaard of Kimballton, IA, Brittney, Morgan, Joshua of Glenwood, IA, Evan Johnston of Glenwood and Dylan and Jenna Hopp both of Glenwood, IA; her brother: Chester Larsen of Littleton, CO, sister-in-law: Lucille Kjergaard of Audubon, IA, nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
The casket bearers will be Edna's grandchildren: Michelle Hansen, Brian Kjergaard, Chad Johnston, Kate Ostanik, Reed Johnston, and Amy Hopp.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Sunday, May 17, 2009, afternoon at 5:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Martinon Monday, May 18, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa.
