Edna Sullivan

Edna Sullivan, 83, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Colonial Manor in Anita, Iowa where she had been a resident for four years.

She was born December 22, 1927, to Bertha (Nielsen) and Charles Glade in Adair County, Iowa. Edna attended country school until attending and graduating from Bridgewater High School in 1945. She continued her education at business school in Omaha, Nebraska and returned to Bridgewater. Upon her return, she was employed at the bank in Bridgewater.

On December 3, 1947, Edna was united in marriage to Al Sullivan at the Methodist parsonage in Greenfield, Iowa. They made their home in Bridgewater from 1947 to 1954, then Tabor, Iowa until 1957, and then settling for the remainder of their life in Anita, Iowa. It was there that Al, Edna, their son and daughter-in-law, along with many other employees ran Anita Lumber with Edna being the bookkeeper for many years.

Edna's joys were all children (especially her grandchildren), cooking for her family, gardening and family gatherings. She was so thrilled to be able to hold her first great-grandchild, Leah, when she was a few months old.

Edna is survived by her three children: Barbara Sullivan of Anita, Iowa; Rita Euken and husband Roger of Cumberland, Iowa; David Sullivan and wife Mia of Petersburg, Illinois; her grandchildren Eric Euken and wife Stacie, Carrie Ohms and husband Matt, Logan and Shannah Sullivan; step-grandsons Justin Denney, Jerrid Denney and wife Jessica; one great-granddaughter, Leah Ohms, one step great-granddaughter, Jovie Denney, her sister Irene Parrott of Corning, Iowa and many special nieces and nephews and their families.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Al, in 2000; granddaughter Melissa in 1992, sisters Minnie Welsch and Ilah Sullivan, brother Calvin Glade, brothers-in-law John Welsch, Paris Sullivan, Melvin Parrott; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Olyn and Cornelia Sullivan.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with family present from 1-2 p.m., at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita. Following the visitation, graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Anita, Iowa.
