Edward Hackwell

Edward J. Hackwell, 73, of Exira, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2008,
at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Edward was born April 9, 1934, at the family home in Anita, Iowa, the son of Edward and Marie (Wahlert) Hackwell.

He was raised in Anita, Iowa, and graduated from Anita High School. Edward had lived in Atlantic and Lewis, Iowa, Wilbur, Nebraska, Gray, Iowa and finally Exira, Iowa.

On February 14, 1954, Edward married Dixie L. Frisbie in the Chapel at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. Dixie passed away October 12, 2007.

He is survived by his two daughters, Helene Rothe and her husband, Ed of Fontanelle, Iowa, Teresa Hackwell of Exira, Iowa; three sons, Glenn Hackwell of Anita, Iowa, Rodney Hackwell, Sr.
of Gray, Iowa, and Rick Hackwell and his wife, Nita of Clarksville, Tennessee; his grandchildren: Jenny Ambrose and her husband, Ben, Jason Hackwell and his wife, Cindy, all of Omaha, Nebraska; Jeff Hackwell and his wife, Tressa, and Jamie Kemp and her husband, Carl, all of Atlantic, Iowa; Heather Rothe, Michelle Rothe and Andrew Rothe, all of Fontanelle, Iowa; Rodney Hackwell, Jr. and Robert Hackwell, both of Gray, Iowa, and Riley Hackwell of Anita, Iowa; his great-grandchildren; Sabien Ambrose, Samantha Ambrose, Allison Ambrose, Alex Ambrose, Tavien Hackwell, and Braxton Hackwell, all of Omaha, Nebraska, Katie Hackwell of Ames, Iowa, Kayci Emerson of Fontanelle, Iowa, and Keegan Kemp of Atlantic, Iowa; his brother, Gene Hackwell and his wife, Naomi of Anita, Iowa; and his sisters, Joan Kautter and her husband, Karl of Missouri, and Sue Christensen and her husband, Andy of Wiota, Iowa.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, father, Edward in 1977 and mother, Marie in 1982; his wife Dixie on October 12, 2007; a son, Kent on October 31, 1970, a brother, Alan Ray Hackwell, in infancy; his sister, Marilyn Byrd; and his granddaughter, Sara Rothe.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at the Anita American Legion Hall, 740 Main Street, Anita, Iowa.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 12 Noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. also at the American Legion Hall. A fellowship and lunch will follow the memorial service.

There will be a scattering of Edward's ashes at a later date.

Memorials will be used at the discretion of the family.

Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita has assisted the family.
