Edwin Haag

Edwin Charles Haag, 96, of Casey, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

Edwin was born November 22, 1920, in Palo Alto County, Iowa, to Rueben John and Cecal Mae (Lawrence) Haag. He grew up in the Emmetsburg, Iowa, area and farmed in Palo Alto County from 1943 to 1959. He then worked as a finish blade man for Central and Riley Construction from 1959 to 1992. He lived in Indianola from 1966 until 1988 at which time he moved to Casey, Iowa. After retiring from the construction business, he delivered the rural Sunday Des Moines Register for five years. He also helped with the maintenance at the Adair rest areas.

He was a member of the Isaac Walton League in Indianola, Iowa. Edwin kept daily journals about his work. He also loved bird watching and college sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Edwin was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, and he loved his dogs.

Preceding Edwin in death were his parents; his wife, Frankie; his brother, Donald; a sister, Evelyn; and a sister in infancy.

Those surviving Edwin are his son, Edwin Charles (Celia) Haag Jr. of Vinton, IA; a daughter, Connie (Jim) Andersen of Pleasant Hill, IA; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Ethel De Jung of Cylinder, IA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with family will be from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care in Adair, Iowa.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 2:30 p.m., at the Oakwood Cemetery in Casey, Iowa.

Memorials may be left to the family's wishes.
